SUBJECT: Permanent Traffic Signal Removal at 16th/Sycamore
The traffic signal at the intersection of 16th and Sycamore Streets was originally
constructed to accommodate the traffic created between the Greyhound Park and the
former FDL Foods, Inc. When the meat processing plant closed, the signals were
turned off, bagged and replaced with signage.
Due to changes in traffic patterns along the 16th and Sycamore intersection, Acting
Public Works Director/City Engineer Gus Psihoyos recommends adoption of a
resolution directing the City Manager to remove the traffic signal at 16th and Sycamore
Streets.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

BACKGROUND
Currently traffic signal equipment remains on record at the intersection of 16th and
Sycamore Street. This traffic signal was originally constructed to accommodate the
traffic created between the Greyhound Park and the former FDL Foods, Inc. When the
meat processing plant closed down, the signals were turned off, bagged, and replaced
with signage. Over time this remaining signal equipment has been damaged and not
replaced.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
The City Council is requested to adopt the attached resolution directing the City
Manager to remove the traffic signal at 16th and Sycamore Streets.

REQUIRING THE REMOVAL OF THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT 16TH AND
SYCAMORE STREETS
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1. That the City Manager is hereby directed to remove the
traffic signal at 16th and Sycamore Streets.
