TO:
The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM:
Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager
SUBJECT: No Parking in Alley Extending from Nevada toward Alpine
The City has received a petition from residents on Alpine and Nevada to have parking
restricted in the alley adjacent to the rear of their properties.
Acting Public Works Director/City Engineer Gus Psihoyos recommends that parking be
prohibited in the alley extending from Nevada east toward Alpine and south to West 3rd
Street due to the narrowness of the alley and the numerous complaints of the alley
being blocked by parked vehicles.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

MEMORANDUM
December 6, 2004
TO:
Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager
-~Q
FROM:
Gus Psihoyos, Acting Public Works Director
SUBJECT:
No Parking in Alley Extending from Nevada Toward Alpine
INTRODUCTION
The City has received a petition from residents on Alpine and Nevada to have parking
restricted in the alley adjacent to the rear of their properties.
DISCUSSION
The alley referred to in the petition extends from Nevada east toward Alpine and south
to West 3rd Street. The roadway portion of the alley that extends easterly from Nevada
consists of two tire tracks approximately four feet (4') apart. At a point one hundred
thirty feet (130') east of Nevada the alley turns and extends south to West 3rd Street.
This portion of the alley has no roadway at this time. However, an owner of property
abutting this section of the alley has indicated a desire to improve the alley and begin
using it. Therefore the residents have requested that this section of the alley also be
included as "No Parking". Only the portions of the alley that are considered travel-ways
would be posted. A map of the requested "No Parking" area is attached.
The Police Department has indicated that they have had many calls for service in the
alley relating to parking.
RECOMMENDATION
I would recommend that parking be prohibited in the alley due to the narrowness of the
alley and the numerous complaints of the alley being blocked by parked vehicles.
