Subject: Arts and Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission
Jeanne,
For the past two years, I have worked diligently with others on the Arts and Cultural Policy Task Force to
advocate for the establishment of an Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission in Dubuque. After reviewing the list of
candidates for the commission, I have decided to withdraw my name from consideration. I am extremely pleased
and gratified to see the number of qualified and experienced candidates who have applied for positions on the
commission. Several of them have asked to use my name as a reference and I will gladly support them. They
are: Cheryl Jacobsen, Jac Tilton and Dave Kessler. Additionally, I would like to recommend Walter Peterson,
Mark Wahlert, Sue Riedel and Ken Bichell. All of them bring extensive knowledge of arts and cultural institutions,
experience with the arts, fairness, objectivity and the ability to work collaboratively with others. Additionally,
several of them have had prior experience working on arts commissions!
The City of Dubuque should be applauded for its efforts in creating the Commission. I will continue to work
diligently and collaboratively as an advocate for arts and culture in Dubuque through the Dubuque Cultural
Alliance and other organizations.
My best wishes and thanks to the Council members for their efforts,
Sincerely,
Geri Shafer

Dear Dubuque City Council Members:
I am writing today in support of Amy Link's nomination as a candidate for the Arts and
Cultural Affairs Commission to represent the Business and Professional Community.
It is my belief that balance and diversity is a key to any such community organization and
1 am confident you will find such attributes well grounded in Amy.
Her proven experience of leadership in the Dubuque Community is testimony to her
strong connection to Dubuque and her passion for leaving it in a better place than she
found it. This position will require many of the same attributes that we found in Amy as
we recently recruited her to fulfill her new responsibilities at U.S. Banle
I would thank you for the time, consideration and support you give Amy's nomination.
Sincerely, ..---

Dear Dubuque City Council Members:
I appreciate your consideration as a candidate for the Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission to
represent the Business and Professional Community. I believe that I am an excellent candidate
to appropriately represent the interests of the community as a whole from both the business and
arts enthusiast positions.
Since I relocated back to Dubuque in 2000, I have been active in the local arts community.
Some of my experience includes: Board of Directors and past treasurer for the Dubuque County
Fine Arts Society, co-founder ofthe Art Afterhours Program at the Dubuque Museum of Art,
Dubuquefest volunteer, Cultural Alliance member, and Arts Task Force Committee member. In
addition to my volunteer work with the arts, I can attribute solid business experience and strong
community focus. I can positively represent the downtown business community and serve as an
advocate for the entire arts community.
My interest in serving on this commission stems from my strong belief that arts and cultural
organizations add to our quality oflife, I also see the arts community as a vehicle for the
underprivileged to assist them with establishing self worth and esteem. I would like to further
assist with the development of arts and culture within our great city.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
