Proclamation_Responsible Gaming Education Week
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the gaming entertainment industry is an important part of our community,
improving our overall economy and quality of life by employing more than
900 people and paying more than $31 million in payroll and benefits in
2010, distributing more than $6.9 million to local charities and
organizations, and more than $44 million in taxes annually; and
WHEREAS, Diamond Jo Casino and Mystique Casino attracted more than the 2.4
million visitors to our local casinos last year; and
WHEREAS, the overwhelming majority of casino customers enjoy gaming for its
entertainmentand recreational value and do so responsibly; and
WHEREAS, the commercial casino entertainment industry has devoted significant
effort and resources to the promotion and practice of responsible gaming,
including establishing the National Center for Responsible Gaming to fund
research into disordered gambling and youth gambling and funding 1-800-
BETS-OFF; and
WHEREAS, the commercial entertainment industry has designated August 1-5, 2011, as
Responsible Gaming Education Week in order to raise awareness of this
important issue.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF AUGUST 1-5, 2011 AS
“RESPONSIBLE GAMING EDUCATION WEEK”
