Nondiscrimination code
Dear Mayor Duggan,
I understand you will be taking an amendment to consider adding sexual orientation to the city's
nondiscrimination code in February. I applaud you for allowing discussion on this important
issue.
I support the Human Rights Commission's proposal to exclude an individual's sexual orientation
as a reason for denying someone employment, housing, and commercial services. Nationally, a
vocal group is trying to deny the rights of our fellow citizens and I urge you to ignore the hysteria
and focus on the facts. Receiving equal employment and basic living opportunities should not be
dependent on irrelevant preferences of an individual.
Again, I appreciate your consideration of allowing the code to be discussed and I hope we can
adopt the new code to include rather than exclude our fellow tax paying citizens.
Thank you for your time and careful consideration.

sexual orientation to law

Cambridge TEMPositions of Dubuque interviews over 75 people each month and
hires 20 new hires each month and places them thru out the Dubuque area.
We are strongly against allowing sexual orientation to be a protected class.
I am not opposed to gays in the work place, but I am certainly opposed of
someone being able to show they are gay in the work place, to flaunt it,
express it and then be protected from discipline for the disruption they are
causing in the office or workplace.
Where does it stop? If gay's can scream discrimination, then why shouldn't
fat people be able to scream discrimination? How about a gay business owner
who discriminates against non gays?
Gay people should not be treated differently then anyone else when it comes
to apartment rental, job, promotion, credit or service, but if a gay person
does not hide his sexuality, then I should be allowed to go on to the next
applicant with the same experience that does not express his or her sexual
preference.
"Don't ask and Don't tell" --- If a gay person does not tell anyone he or
she is gay when applying, working or at a restaurant getting service why
would they be treated any differently?? Its when they flaunt it that
creates problems, just as a man who starts hitting on women in the work
place and flaunts it, it creates problems. Neither example should have a
avenue to file for discrimination.
