Hunger Clean-up Day Proclamat

WHEREAS, the students of Clarke and Loras Colleges will be joining together in an
effort to fight hunger and homelessness and to beautify our community
in the "Dubuque Hunger Cleanup"; and
WHEREAS,
on Saturday, April 8, 2000 as part of the "Dubuque Hunger Cleanup,"
participants will be spending time at such sites as the Shalom Retreat
Center, Albrecht Acres, Allison Henderson Park, YWCA, Mt. Carmel and
Stonehill Care Center, as well as numerous other sites throughout the
Dubuque community; and
WHEREAS, from 9:00 to 12:00 Noon on Saturday, April 8, 2000 students will be
cleaning up shelters, repainting soup kitchens and planting community
gardens while at the same time raising funds for the hungry and
homeless; and
WHEREAS,
haff of the funds raised through the "Dubuque Hunger Cleanup" will be
donated to the St. Stephen's Food Bank and the Catholic Worker House
which will help alleviate hunger and homelessness in our own
community, while the remaining money will support the national and
International Student Campaign against Hunger.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOL VED THA T I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MA YOR OF
THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE COUNCIL, STAFF AND
CITIZENS OF OUR GREAT COMMUNITY DO HEREBY COMMEND ALL THOSE
STUDENTS ACT/VEL Y INVOLVED IN THE HANDS-ON LABOR OF THIS 1999
STUDENT CAMPAIGN AGAINST HUNGER, AND EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR
SUCCESS IN THEIR EFFORTS TO RAISE FUNDS.
