Library Week Proclamation
WHEREAS, America's libraries are free and open to all people, providing vital
educational, cultural, and recreational resources; and
WHEREAS, literate and informed citizens are essential to the productivity and
survival of our democratic institutions; and
WHEREAS, libraries provide books, programs, Internet, and other resources to
help our children succeed in school and throughout life; and
WHEREAS, libraries provide lifelong learning opportunities for success in the
21st century.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MA YOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THA T THE WEEK OF April 9-15, 2000
BE:
"LIBRARY WEEK"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE AND ENCOURAGE ALL RESIDENTS TO JOIN ME IN
EXPRESSING GREAT APPRECIATION TO OUR LIBRARY STAFF FOR THE
ESSENTIAL SERVICES THEY PROVIDE.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have here-
