Proclamation - Comm. Develop Wk

~ roc lamatío n
the Federal Community Development Block Grant Program has operated for
26 years to provide local governments with the resources required to
develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a
suitable living environment and expanding economic opportunities
principally for persons of low and moderate income; and
the Community Development Block Grant Program has had a significant
impact on our local economy through job creation and retention, physical
redevelopment and improved tax base; and
Dubuque, Iowa and other local governments have clearly demonstrated the
capacity to customize the CDBG Program to identify and resolve pressing
local problems, such as affordable housing, neighborhood needs, job
creation, and physical redevelopment; and
a week recognizing community development will encourage community
residents to reaffirm the significance and diversity of their local community
development program efforts toward meeting the objectives of the program.
NOW THEREFORE, " TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA,
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF APRIL 24TH THROUGH APRIL 30, 2000 AS:
"COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK"
AND URGE THE PEOPLE OF DUBUQUE TO JOIN WITH US IN RECOGNIZING THE
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM AND THE IMPORTANCE IT SERVES TO OUR
COMMUNITY.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto
set my hand and caused the Great Seal
of the City of Dubuque, IA to be affixed
this 17th day of April, 2000.
Terrance M. Duggan, MA YOR
