on April 29, 2000, citizens of Dubuque will gather at the Dubuque
Arboretum and Botanical Gardens to celebrate the first Arbor Day of the
new Millennium; and
we recognize that trees are a precious natural resource, contributing
to the health of our planet and our quality of life; and

IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have
hereunto set my hand and caused the
Great Seal of the City of Dubuque,
Iowa to be affixed this 17th day of
April, 2000,

we resolve to plant more trees in an effort to curb the effects of global
warming; to cool the environment, to provide fresh oxygen to breathe
and to insure our quality of life for generations to come; and
we resolve to enter the 21st century planting trees in appropriate
locations and caring for them in ways that protect them from harm and
promote their health and beauty; and
we resolve to discontinue the use of yesterdays' destructive tree care
practices and dispel all myths that continue to cause them harm,
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M, DUGGAN MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE,
IOWA DO HEREBY PROCLAIM SATURDAY, APRIL 29,2000 AS:
"ARBOR DA Y"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA AND URGE OUR CITIZENS TO RECOGNIZE THE
BEAUTY AND VALUE OF TREES,
