Addressing and Petitioning the Dubuque City Council
Please accept my letter of request to appear before the City Council at their next meeting,
April 17,2000. Please find enclosed the announcement letter and the names of the people
involved in this request.
This Reunion will include people who grew up in the Park Hill area during the 60's and early 70's.
As teenagers we spent the better part of our weekends and summer days at Gay Park. We
socialized there, played ball there, and participated in City Recreation activities there.
Our plans include volleyball, softball, and a catered meal. We would like to legally be allowed to
bring coolers along as adult-only reneshment if the attendees so desire.
I have been informed by Mr. Gil Spence that alcoholic beverages are not permitted in any
Dubuque Park under 10 acres in size. I have also been told by Mr. Mike Van Milligan that only
the City Council could grant a waiver to this ordinance.
Our request is a one-time waiver of the ordinance that would allow us to bring coolers to our
Reunion. The date is Saturday, August 12,2000, nom noon to 5 p.m. This is not a request for
kegs.
Please schedule me to petition the City Council, unless this request can be granted without an
appearance. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

GA Y PARK LIVES
That's right. Y2K is already here, but come back to the Playground with us as we return
to the 60's and 70's for a Park Hill Millennium Reunion.
We have formed a committee to plan this event and, hopefully, we're giving you enough
time to find a way to get to the Playground. (Tell your Mom we're going to sleep out)
The Park Hill Millennium Reunion is scheduled for August 11, 12, and 13 Year 2000.
It will start with a Friday night reception. On Saturday, we have the whole day planned
AT THE PLAYGROUND. There will be volleyball, softball, ice skating, and swinging.
We are arranging for a catered meal at Gay Park, so you won't have to run up to the store
(Park Hill IGA or Oky Doky, depending on your age) to get a pop. Saturday night will be
a party at Bob (Stub) Miller's Sports Complex. We'll do something on Sunday if enough
people can stay around.
We intend to keep everyone updated on the Reunion by future newsletters, phone calls, and
by E-Mail (didn't have that back in 1969; you just told one ofthe girls and it spread faster
than it could via the Internet).
