Dear Mr. Gonyier:
The Dubuque County Board of Supervisors enthusiastically supports the City of Dubuque Land and
Water Conservation Fund Grant application for the Riprow Valley Restoration Project.
This proposed project along the Mississippi River now includes a small parcel of property located in
Dubuque County and borders the Mines of Spain State Recreation Area. This project will bring us closer
to the City and County's goals for the maximum possible restoration and public usage of the Mississippi
River.
The Riprow Valley is among the few remaining public access points to the Mississippi and is contiguous
to the main channel of the Catfish Creek. Restoration of the Catfish Creek watershed has been a goal of
the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors since its financial participation in a Watershed Protection
Project with the Iowa Soil Conservation Services and property owners in 1980.
The restoration and preservation of the Riprow Valley will be an enormous improvement to Dubuque
County's environment and will provide provide access to the Mississippi River.
We heartily endorse this project.
Sincerely,
DUBUQUE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Alan Manternach, Chairperson
Mayor Terry Duggan, City of Dubuque
Laura Carstens, City of Dubuque
