This is something that we have to apply for every three years and prove that we comply with all of the State's minimum standards for public libraries. Continued certification also is an advantage in favorable consideration for funding from State supported projects such as "Enrich Iowa", "Open Access", and LSTA grant applications. The Board works hard to review all library policies at least every three years, one of the requirements for certification. The Board, the library staff and I very much appreciate your support and the support of the Mayor and Council in our efforts to provide quality library service to the people of Dubuque. I would appreciate it if a copy of this letter could be received and filed by the Council. Thank you. The Carnegie-Stout Public Library has met the conditions for state accreditation as outlined in IN SERVICE TO IOWA: PUBLIC LIBRARY MEASURES OF QUALITY, 3m edition. Achieving accreditation requires a tremendous local commitment to quality library service. Accredited libraries are recognized for their efforts in all areas of library administration and services including Governance, AdministrationlFunding, Staffing, Collection Management, Services, Public Relations, and Access/Facilities. To publicly acknowledge this accomplishment, you will be receiving, when all signatures have been secured, an official Certificate of Accreditation signed by the Governor and the Chairperson of the Iowa Commission of Libraries. For your immediate use with local media, a news release is included with this letter. The accreditation of your library is valid for three years (through June 30, 2003) at which time a new application for accreditation must be submitted. We are confident your library will continue as an example of exemplary library service. Again, congratulations and best wishes as you delivery quality library services to your community. Sincerely, Sharman B. Smith State Librarian Enclosure
