Housing and Community Development Department Director David Harris is
recommending approval of the sale of property at 2300 Washington Street to Habitat for
Humanity.
A Bee Branch home located at 324 East 24th Street was purchased by the City, for
removal in connection with the Creek realignment project. The Housing Department
reached agreement with the Habitat for Humanity organization to purchase this house
and move it to another lot, previously purchased by the City at 2300 Washington Street.
The structure on this lot had previously been deconstructed by the City, due to its
infeasibility for rehabilitation.
This lot was subsequently subdivided into two lots, in order to move the home from 324
East 24th Street, and a second City - purchased Bee Branch home located at 320 East
24th. Both homes will be sold to Habitat for Humanity, substantially rehabilitated and
re -sold to Habitat families.
The lot at 2300 Washington has been subdivided, excavations dug and full basement
foundations constructed. The two East 24th Street homes have been relocated.
Habitat is now ready to purchase these properties from the City, each at a cost of $1.00.
The Housing Department will make a loan of $40 000 on each property to Habitat, for
the costs of moving the house, excavation, basement and foundation and installation of
utilities. This mortgage will be transferred to the Habitat buyer family at project
completion.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.
