Dear Honorable Mayor and City Council:
Menard, Inc. respectfully request that the Dubuque City Council table the
Menard, Inc. agenda item that is currently scheduled as an Action Item on the Council's
August 21. 2000 allenda. Menard, Inc. requests that the same be set for public hearing
and decision at the Councils next scheduled meeting, that being Tuesday, September 5,
2000.
Menard, Inc.'s discussions with Dick Kautz and Bob Kramse of the Iowa
Department of Transportation ("IDOT") led us to believe that the proposed Menard, Inc.
site will be outside ofthe scope of the Southwest Arterial Study. A final detennination of
the scope of said study would likely be available prior to the September 5, 2000 meeting,
but not before the August 21. 2000 meeting.
Antioipating that proposed Menard. Inc. site will be outside of the scope of the
Southwest Arterial Study. Menard. Inc. will be meeting with IDOT to discuss access
alternatives to the site. Menard. Inc. would appreciate the Council's participation in
suggesting access alternatives. as well as the Council allowing city staff to participate in
determining access as well. Menard, Inc.'s discussions with IDOT on the issue of
accessed to the proposed site can only be meaningful with City of Dubuque input on the
issue as well.
I will be attending the Monday, August 21, 2000 meeting if you should have any
questions.
