Dear Mayor Duggan and Council Members,
As Chair of the Dubuque Public Safety Communications Center Committee, I am
writing to express our concern about the duplication of city street and county road names.
As new streets and roads are platted within the county and its cities, duplicate
names are being used and we are concerned about the possibility of delays in the response
of emergency and law enforcement vehicles.
While the County is involved in the process of platting new subdivisions and has
input in the naming of new roads platted in the unincorporated areas, thus hopefully
eliminating duplication of names already in use in cities, there is no mechanism for cities
to eliminate such duplication when approving the names of streets within their
jurisdictions.
We hope this issue will be on the agenda at an upcoming Council of Governments
meeting, and urge you to discuss it, and include members of your staff, so a suitable
aaang~ent can be instituted.
