Proclamation - Dollars Against Diabetes Day

WHEREAS,
diabetes is the third leading cause of death from disease in the
United States, the leading cause of blindness, and the third major
chronic childhood disease; and
WHEREAS,
diabetes affects over thirteen million people in the United States,
whose lives are considerably shortened because of this disease and
its complications which can be heart and kidney disease, vascular
deterioration, and blindness which will affect one out of two insulin-
dependentdiabeUcs;and
WHEREAS, the Dubuque Building & ConstrucUon Trades Council will again be
joining with the National Building Trades to collect funds to fight
diabetes and their campaign is known as "D.A.D. 's" - "Dollars
Against Diabetes. "
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM SA TURDA Y, JUNE 10, 2000 AS:

IN DUBUQUE AND CALL UPON ALL CITIZENS TO SUPPORT THE EFFORTS OF
THE DUBUQUE BUILDING TRADES COUNCIL TO ASSIST THE DIABETES
INSTITUTE'S ASSAUL T ON DIABETES.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto
set my hand and caused the Great Seal of
the City of Dubuque, IA to be affixed this
