CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA MEMORANDUM May 17, 2000 TO: Milligen, City Manager FROM: es Bur e, Community and Economic Development Director SUBJ: Close-out and Final Payment Merchants Hotel Demolition INTRODUCTION This memorandum recommends City Council acceptance of the Merchants Hotel Demolition Project and approval of final payment. DISCUSSION The City Council approved a contract with Tschiggfrie Excavating in June, 1999, for demolition and site clearance of the Merchants Hotel Building at 304 Main Street. The demolition was required as part of the City's Development Agreement with the Chamber of Commerce for new Chamber offices. Tschiggfrie has demolished and cleared the site as provided in the bid specifications with one exception. The company was directed by staff to drop from the project the cleaning and tuckpointing of the Dolan Building wall which was exposed by the demolition. This change was made because of the planned demolition of the Dolan Building and it resulted in a $10,000 reduction in project cost. Staff have reviewed the work and the documentation presented by Tschiggfrie Excavating and find then to be complete. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the City Council accept the Merchants Hotel Demolition and Site Clearance Project as complete and approve final payment under the contract with Tschiggfrie Excavating Company. ACTION STEP The Action Step is for the City Council to adopt the attached resolution. F:IUSERSIJBURKEIBURKEIDOCSICOMDEVlOLDMAINlMERCHANTIfulpay.memo.wpd
