Public Information Officer Randy Gehl is recommending that the City purchase some
Sustainable Dubuque promotional items. Some of them would be used at the Growing
Sustainable Communities Conference in October 2011, with the bulk used at community
activities. The $8,690 is available in the Sustainability Initiative Capital Improvement
Program budget.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

The purpose of this memorandum is to respond to your request for cost estimates of
promotional items to assist in branding /marketing the Sustainable Dubuque initiative.
The following are estimates for items which would display the Sustainable Dubuque
logo. Some of these items would be ordered in time to be used at the Growing
Sustainable Communities Conference on Oct. 11 -12. They would also be distributed in
the future at community events and presentations to schools, civic groups, etc.
Reusable shopping /tote bags made from 100% recycled water bottles.
500 x $5.85 = $2,925
Full -color epoxy dome lapel pins made from eco- friendly recycled brass. Made in the
USA. Production time: 3 -4 weeks.
1,000 x $2.15 = $2,015 + $95 set -up charge = $2,110
Redesign and printing of Mayor and City Council's Sustainability Pledge Card
4,000 copies = $1,250
Static cling stickers (window clings)
$1.24 x 1,000 = $1,024
Magnets (approx.. 4" x 4 ") made with 70% post - industrial recycled material. Made in the
USA. Production time: 1 -2 weeks.

Imprinted pencils made from 100% recycled newspaper. Production time: 2 -3 weeks.

Removable 3" x 9" decals /bumper stickers. Production time: 3 days.

Based on these estimates, I am requesting your permission to proceed with this
expenditure of approximately $8,690. Sustainable Community Coordinator Cori
Burbach and Budget Director Jennifer Larson advise that funds are available in the
Sustainability Initiative CIP fund, 1022218 - 62090. If approved, I will order the items in
time for the conference in October. Thank you.
