RE: DMATS Application for Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant
Greetings:
On behalf of the city of Dubuque, I would like to express my firm support of the region's
metropolitan planning organization, Dubuque Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (DMATS),
in their application for the Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant Program. As a
member community of the Planning Resilient Rural Communities Consortium, I believe in the
activities discussed in the application and look forward to work on next steps in implementing a
Regional Plan for Sustainable Development for our metro area.
We are excited to assist with creation of this Regional Plan for Sustainable Development, while
planning for smarter growth in the region. Our community will participate in the project by
sharing our Planning Services staff expertise to develop smart zoning, subdivision, and building
codes for the region and design a pilot resilient community. Our community will provide staff
time, fringe benefits and overhead directly related to the project at a value of $30,000 each year
of the grant period to work with the core partners to implement the Regional Plan for
Sustainable Development.
In 2006 and every year since, the Dubuque City Council has identified becoming a more
Sustainable City as one of their top priorities for our community. Implementation of a
community- defined sustainability plan is among the top Council priorities for this year, and each
of this year's priorities incorporate one of the parts of Dubuque's model of sustainability.
With our priority of becoming a sustainable community, the City of Dubuque is committed to
assisting with the activities of this project. I hope that you seriously consider this application and
decide that our project can be a model to other communities with populations of 200,000 or Tess.
Sincerely,
Lynn V. Sutton
