WHEREAS, May 6-12, 2000 has been designated "National Nurses' Week"; and
WHEREAS, the theme for this year's Nurses' Week is "Nurses Keeping the Care in
Health Care"; and
WHEREAS, the need for nursing is as great as ever due to an aging population,
increases in technology, changes in the settings where health care is
delivered, changes in health care financing and changing health care
needs of today's consumer; and
WHEREAS, Nurses spend hours furthering their education and improving their skills
to provide expert services to the community; and
WHEREAS, Nurses accept the challenges and opportunities in our changing
society; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to value and honor the over 1,592 active nurses in
Dubuque County that provide us with such excellent care.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MA YOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE,
IOWA DO HEREBY PROCLAIM MA Y 6-12, 2000 AS:
"NURSES' WEEK"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE AND URGE ALL OF OUR CITIZENS TO GIVE DUE HONOR
AND RECOGNITION TO THESE MOST DEDICA TED AND FAITHFUL HEALTH CARE
WORKERS.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have here-
