WHEREAS, in our beautiful tn-state area fishing is a natural popular sport for so many
because of the nearness of the Mississippi River; and
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Walleye Club is reviving the popular "Kids' Day Fishing
Tournament" which had originally been sponsored by KDTH & The Bait Shack;
and
WHEREAS, students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 are asked to write a 100-word essay entitled
"Why I want to Go Fishing" submit it by April 7th, and a panel will choose the
100 best essays. Each of those 100 students will receive a new rod, reel and
fishing tackle, official shirt, lunch and be qualified to be part of 50, 2-person
teams and compete for prizes; and
WHEREAS, fifty boats with two students and a member of the Mississippi Walleye Club
will depart from Schmitt Harbor and Hawthorne Boat Ramp at 8 A.M. and
return by 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 3, 2000; and
WHEREAS, the Mississippi Walleye Club recognizes that fishing and learning to fish
is the important factor in this day, something that can be done for a lifetime,
bringing individuals out into nature, and giving them positive alternatives to
TV and video games.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA,
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THAT SATURDAY, JUNE 3, 2000 BE DESIGNATED AS:
"MISSISSIPPI WALLEYE CLUB KIDS' DA Y"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set
