Aquatics for the design of the Water Playground construction projects.

SUBJECT: Water Playground Design
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide you with the recommendation of the
RFP Committee for the design firm for the Water Playground Construction Projects at
both Sutton and Flora Pools.
BACKGROUND
A committee of the following people was formed to review the proposals for design of
the water playgrounds at both pools:

Proposals were received from four firms:

DISCUSSION
This is a rather simple project in that we have selected the water playground equipment

to be installed as well as the location for each_ The design firm will need to determine
pool size, filtration system and how the equipment is connected_ Time frame required
for the design should be rather short because the basic design has been determined.
The RFP Committee individually rated all four proposals and then met to compare the
results. It was evident easily in the discussion that all four firms were highly thought of
and well qualified to do this project. Burbach Aquatics is the committee's
recommendation for the following reasons:
. They were one of the two firms that made notice of similar water playgrounds they
have installed.
Their office is in Platteville and clearly outlined the number of visits they will make to
Dubuque during the project.
Dave Burbach has been working with Recreation Division Manager Pat Prevenas on
another issue at our pools so he is familiar with the pools.
The fee outlined (12% of construction cost) was far less than two of the firms and
within $3,550 of the other firm.
ACTION STEP
The action requested is that the City Council approve the selection of Burbach Aquatics
for the design of the water playgrounds at the swimming pools.
