Fire Chief Dan Brown is recommends City Council approval to apply for the 2011
Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $204,000 for a video conferencing
system (telepresence) for all six fire stations and the Training Center /EOC. This grant
would also include funding for an Incident Management Course for all fire personnel.
The 20% match by the City is $40,800, and if the grant is received, would be budgeted
in the FY13 CIP budget.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

The 2011 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program has provided for an opportunity for
the Fire Department to apply for another grant. Since 2002, the Fire Department has
been successful 9 times for grants from this program.
I am requesting permission to make an application for a video conferencing system
(telepresence) for all 6 fire stations and the Training Center /EOC. This grant would also
include funding for Incident Management Course for all fire personnel. This system
would be designed to provide two -way telepresence capability for daily operations,
training and emergency communications between all of the stations and the Training
Center /EOC. This system would also have the capability to be expanded for use by
other city departments or partner agencies in the future.
This grant is an 80/20 cost share. The total project is $204,000 and that would leave a
20% match by the City of $40,800 if the grant is awarded. If the grant is awarded we
would have a performance period of 12 months, therefore the matching funds can be
included in FY13 CIP budget if approved.
