Proclamation_Arts and Humanities Month_October 2011 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the month of October has been recognized as National Arts and Humanities Month by Americans for the Arts, the White House, Congress and countless communities across the nation for more than two decades; and WHEREAS, the arts and humanities embody much of the accumulated wisdom, intellect, and imagination of humankind; and WHEREAS, the arts and humanities enhance and enrich life in Dubuque today for both citizens and tourists through the economy, jobs, education, creativity and community livability; and WHEREAS, the City has provided over $1.8 million in financial support to Dubuque arts and cultural organizations through two grant programs; and Art on the River, a year-long outdoor, temporary public art exhibit. NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 2011 AS: “ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH” IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND CALL UPON OUR CITIZENS TO CELEBRATE AND PROMOTE THE ARTS AND CULTURE IN DUBUQUE IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the rd City of Dubuque to be affixed this 3 day of October, 2011. ________________________________ Roy D.
