Mayor Duggan
Dear Mayor Duggan,
I am writing you regarding Mrs. Janice Craddieth, the woman rwming for the
opening on the Community Development Advisory Commission. I have worked
with Janice since last October when we met at a Community Development
Advisory Commission meeting. Since then, she has been an active participant
in the development of a multicultural center in the Washington Neighborhood
area. She has also been working collaboratively with Jerelyn O'Connor to
develop a neighborhood association in the Washington area to help address
the issues of vandalism, safety and crime in her neighborhood. She is eager
to help this community grow and develop into a safe and welcoming place for
everyone. I believe her involvement on the Community Development Advisory
Commission would add a new and needed perspective, which the commission has
expressed a need for in recent months. Two current Commissioners have
contacted me hoping I would be able to encourage diverse, female citizens of
Dubuque to apply. Being an African American woman who is reasonably new to
the community, Mrs. Craddieth will be able to express the needs of the
minority population she lives in community with. I feel she will be a
valuable addition to the CD Advisory Commission.
I am sure the other applicant for the CD Advisory Commission is just as
capable, but due to the current makeup of the CD Advisory Commission (8
males and I female), he lacks the diversity this commission is seeking. I
encourage you to please vote to elect Mrs. Janice Craddieth to the Community
Development Advisory Commission this Monday evening. If you have any
questions or comments feel free to email me at this address or to call me at
589-4191. Thank you for your time!
Sincerely,
Tara Nelson
