WHEREASJ since 1989 St. Mark Community Center has existed to work with the
families of downtown Dubuque meet some of the unmet needs of their
children; and
WHEREASJ the St. Mark Community Center's Education Committee is dedicated to
furthering the total learning experience of all children they work with;
and
WHEREASJ St. Mark Community Center will again be doing the APPLES FOR
STUDENTS program in the Dubuque community this summer between
July 8 and July 23J 2000. This program collects basic school supplies
for children of families who need help purchasing them; and
WHEREASJ the local schools and human service agencies have helped St. Mark
Community Center identify the 500 to 600 children who need school
supplies this year - and expect the number to go higher because of the
recent layoff's in Dubuque; and
WHEREASJ the St. Mark Community Center is inviting the people of Dubuque to
help in this program by picking up a list of needed supplies from their
Church or from Wal-MartJ purchase the supplies and return the bag of
school supplies to St. Mark Community Center so they can be passed
on to the children who need them.

10WAJ DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE COLLECTION OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES FROM
JULY 8 TO JULY 23 A NEED IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE AND I SUPPORT ST. MARK
COMMUNITY CENTER IN THEIR EFFORT OF HELPING OUR CHILDREN.
