The Colts annual Music on the March this year will be Wedftesday~1y :rat Senior High School
beginning 6 p.m. This is the fIrst time in six years the event has been held on a weeknight.
We respectfully request Council action to suspend enforcement of residential parking regulations
in the area surrounding Senior High School from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7. This would
include North Grandview Avenue, Clarke Drive, Rosedale Street, West Locust Street and any other streets
included in the residential parking district surrounding Senior High School.
This is the single largest outdoor event of the year at Senior, and parking is at a premium, even
using street parking. We expect a crowd of2,200-2,500. Approximately 40% are guests from out of
Dubuque. This year's show is a better line up than several years past, and the crowd could be even bigger
than normal, as more out of town fans may be attracted to this competition. We have three of the top 12 in
the world scheduled to perform this year.
As you know, this event creates a unique and real parking challenge because not only are we
parking thousands of fans, we are also fmding parking for 25 tour buses, 12 semi trucks, 6-10 cube trucks,
assorted trailers, 10 or more vans and additional cars and mini buses that transport the corps and their
equipment. All corps vehicles will be parked in the Senior lot.
We are willing to contact by mail all affected residents, providing them information on the show,
information on the Colts and information on what this show is all about. We request a mailing list from
city staff to help in this process.
We will start our show this year at 6 p.m. instead of the traditional 7:30 to cut down the
inconvenience in the neighborhood as much as possible.
