The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
City of Dubuque
50 W. 13th St.
Dubuque IA 52001
SUBJECT: Liaison to the Long Range Planning Advisory Commission
Dear Mayor and City Council Members:
This letter responds to the request from the City Council and the Long Range Planning
Advisory Commission that the Zoning Advisory Commission continue to maintain a
liaison between the Commissions. After discussion at their May 3,2000, meeting, the
Zoning Advisory Commission continues to maintain the position that the formal liaison
role is not necessary, in part, because the Commissions generally focus on separate,
unrelated issues.
The Zoning Advisory Commission feels that, although a formal liaison role is not
necessary, it is important that the Zoning Advisory Commission maintain dialogue with
the Long Range Planing Advisory Commission regarding Comprehensive Plan issues.
The Zoning Advisory Commission feels that a compromise solution could be to hold
work sessions, as needed, between both Commissions to discuss the Comprehensive
Plan update and other planning related issues.
We ask that the City Council reconsider its original request to maintain the
Commissions liaison, and consider a compromise solution that the Commissions
conduct joint work sessions when Comprehensive Plan issues arise.
Sincerely,
