WHEREAS, assisted living is a special combination of housing, personalized supportive
services and health care designed to respond to the unique needs of
individuals that do not need the skilled nursing of a nursing home; and
WHEREAS, assisted living promotes maximum independence and dignity for each
resident and encourages the involvement of a resident's family, neighbors
and friends; and
WHEREAS, Sunset Park Place of Dubuque encompasses these unique concepts in
assisted living and also provides an early Alzheimers' care living program in
its Weiand Gardens unit; and
WHEREAS, Sunset Park Place of Dubuque is planning a variety of activities to celebrate
the "Assisted Living Week" which include the designation of a King and
Queen and a Royal Party on Sept. 11th; a Professional reception on Sept. 12th)
dlmil-Sept. 13th a special Luncheon and later an Open House with attendance
by the Tri-State Classic Car Club; and on Sept. 15th, an Ice Cream Social; and
WHEREAS, celebration of this special week will promote greater awareness of the
brighter future that awaits each of us as we seek to age with dignity within
our own community.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM SEPTEMBER 10-16, 2000 AS:
IIASSISTED LIVING WEEK"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.

that gives our older citizens more flexibility in how they choose to live their later years,' said

Assisted living is a rapidly expanding senior housing and healthcare alternative for those who
wish to receive help with routine living activities while retaining their independence, privacy and
dignity in a residential setting.
In the spirit of Assisted Living Week, (Name of Public Official) will participate in an Apple Pie
Taste-Off and Fall Open House on Sunday, September 12 at (Name of Residence). Public
admission is free for the open house which will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at (address of residence).

dozen grandmothers who all claim that their grandmother's recipe is the best. Whole families

the Olden Goldies quartet, a children's activity room and free wellness checks.
