Dominic Villa in Dubuque to a new facility at the Mother house in Wisconsin. Enclosed is a letter that was recently sent to our Dubuque employees. Though the relocation results in our Dubuque facility closing, we are creating employment opportunities in nearby Wisconsin. We anticipate offering job transfers to all or most of our affected employees. If you have questions or would like additional information regarding our transition, please contact me. You may also contact our Villa Administrator, Mr. David Tranel. As an aside, we recently listed the Dubuque Villa with Ms. Pat Friedman at Prudential Friedman Realty Commercial Services of Dubuque. If you are interested in obtaining more information about the building or grounds, you may contact Pat at 583-7580, or visit the web site www.loopnet.com. Sinsinawa Mound St. Dominic Villa 585 County Road Z 600 Mazzuchelli Heights Sinsinawa WI 53824-9700 Dubuque IA 52001 August 11, 2000 Dear Employees at St. Dominic Villa: The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) requires employers who are closing a facility and displacing 50 or more full-time employees to give 60 days' notice of that closing or mass layoff. Even though the Sinsinawa Dominicans are not bound by the WARN act, we are letting you know that the Dubuque location of St. Dominic Villa will close in not less tha..'1 60 days. In January 1998, employees were first notified that the Dominican sisters were exploring facility options. The cost to renovate the existing building in order to meet today's code for a licensed nursing facility was found too prohibitive for our non-profit budget. We considered buying another existing property, relocating residents to various other nursing facilities, or building a new facility. The sisters as a congregation affirmed the decision to build a new facility at the Mother house (Sinsinawa Mound) if at all feasible. Committees, staff members and individuals pulled together to make this a reality. In early July 1999, it became probable that we could secure a license to operate a nursing facility at the Mother house. We notified employees that we were working with Rice Health Care Facilities to manage the new facility for us. On October 29, 1999 we broke ground for the new building, and the process was visibly under way! We have met with employees every few months to provide updates on the progress of the building. The most recent data sent to employees (June 2, 2000) indicated that we anticipate the new facility to be ready in October 2000. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we've worked together to accomplish this fantastic feat. It is exciting to be able to reunite the family of the Sinsinawa Dominicans at the Mother house in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. We ask for your continued prayers as we work toward the completion of this transition. Many blessings, ~sP+ Human Resource Director ,~..<-_:/J AP David Tranel Villa Administrator cc: Iowa Workforce Development, Dislocated Worker Unit Terrance Duggan, Mayor of Dubuque
