Mayor and Council Members,
I am writing to express my opinion, as a citizen living in the downtown area, regarding
the issue about what to do with the Town Clock Plaza. I would like to see the Plaza
remain as it is. I enjoy attending the many activities held on the Plaza. I understand that
some of the Council Members have suggested opening Main Street with a narrow street
to allow closure of the street for activities. I am a person who uses an electric
wheelchair. I would find it difficult to attend activities with a street running through the
Plaza. The reason this would be difficult is because I would need to locate a curb cut
each time I wanted to move from one side of the Plaza to the other, or from the street to
the Plaza. Activities on the Plaza are well attended which make it challenging to
maneuver around the Plaza in it's current state. Opening the Plaza would make it nearly
impossible to attend these activities because of needing to maneuver using the curb
cuts. I realize this may be something most people have not thought about. As a person
using a wheelchair, I am well aware of many places I cannot go because they are not
easily accessible. I appreciate you taking this letter under consideration.
Sincerely, ,
\ ~rs
