Koch, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Jackson Street, Two Hour Parking INTRODUCTION This memorandum is in response to a petition from business owners on Jackson Street to designate a "Two Hour Parking" zone on the east side of Jackson Street from Milwaukee Street to Ruby Street. DISCUSSION Currently there are no restrictions on parking on Jackson Street in this requested area. However, the street is posted "No Parking" on the east side of Jackson from Ruby to its northerly terminus. This is directly north of and adjacent to the area where the petitioners are requesting the two-hour zone. The owners of the businesses located on the west side of Jackson have indicated that because of Flexsteel employees parking on the east side of Jackson, there is no parking available to their customers. They also assert that Flexsteel provides sufficient parking for their employees and that Flexsteel management has tried to discourage their employees from parking there, but to no avail. It should be noted that a representative of Flexsteel Industries has also signed the petition. RECOMMENDA TION I would recommend adoption of the enclosed ordinance adding a "Two Hour Parking" zone on the east side of Jackson Street from Milwaukee Street to Ruby Street as requested in the petition. ACTION TO BE TAKEN The City Council is requested to adopt the enclosed ordinance creating a "Two Hour Parking" zone on the east side of Jackson Street from Milwaukee Street to Ruby Street. MAK/vjd Prepared by Bill Schlickman, Traffic Engineering Assistant . . . /__., ft. ~// >- .. June 23, 2000 Dear City Counsil Members, We the undersigned business owners have a request for 2 hour parking. It would be on the East side of Jackson St from the comer of Milwaukee St. down to the comer of Ruby St. The reason for this request is because F1exsteel Employees are parking on Jackson street. We would like to see a 2 hour parking on the east side of Jackson St. between the 2 above stated streets Mon-Fri from 8-5 PM. This problem is leaving no parking for our customers. Flexsteel offers sufficient parking for their employees. F1exsteel management has tried to help with this matter and still it has not been resolved. We hope you will consider our requests.
