A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE AIDS PREVENTATIVE HEALTH CONTRACT
BETWEEN THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SIGN A CONTRACT
WITH THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH FOR FUNDING OF A LOCAL
AIDS PREVENTATIVE HEALTH PROGRAM.
Whereas, the Iowa Department of Public Health has offered to provide financial
support for local AIDS Preventative Health and Education Programs in the City of Dubuque;
and
Whereas, the City of Dubuque desires to establish and maintain such local AIDS
Preventative Health and Education Programs; and
Whereas, the Iowa Department of Public Health has presented the City Health
Services Division a proposed contract amendment for continued funding, a copy of which is
attached hereto.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA:

Section 1. That the City of Dubuque, Iowa, hereby approves the attached AIDS
Preventative Health Contract between the Iowa Department of Public Health and the City
of Dubuque, Iowa.
Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to execute said
contracts on behalf of the City of Dubuque, Iowa.

SUBJECT: Contract with the Iowa Department of Public Health for Funding of the AIDS
Preventative Health Program
Public Health Specialist Mary Rose Corrigan is recommending approval of a contract with the
Iowa Department of Public Health for continued funding of the local AIDS Preventative Health
Program through September, 2001.

SUBJECT:
Contract with the Iowa Department of Public Health for funding of the AIDS
Preventative Health Program
INTRODUCTION
This memorandum submits for your consideration a contract with the Iowa Department of Public
Health for continued funding of the local AIDS Preventative Health program through September,
2001.
DISCUSSION
.
The current AIDS Preventative Health contract, ran through September 30, 2000. Contracts have
been renewed annually since 1989. The contract contains the same provisions without any
changes.
The $6,500 grant can be used for continued AIDS prevention activities and distribution of AIDS
educational materials, supplies, equipment and personnel expenses.
The AIDS Preventative Health contract is reimbursed with the Federal Preventative Health and Health
Services (PHHS) block grant funds.
BUDGET IMPACT
The FY 00-01 budget anticipated a $7,000 grant from the Iowa Department of Public Health to
assist in financing communicable disease related activities. $6,500.00 will be reimbursed to the
City, through the grant, for expenses incurred by the Public Health Specialist regarding AIDS
activities.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend that the City Council approve the attached contract with the Iowa Department of
Public Health for continued funding of the AIDS Preventative Health program.
ACTION STEP
.
The action step is for the City Council to adopt the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager
to sign the contract on behalf of the City of Dubuque.
