BOARD OF HEALTH
The County Board of Health consists of five members, at least one of whom be
licensed as a doctor of medicine, or as an osteopathic physician in the State of Iowa.
They are appointed for three year terms by the Board of Supervisors. The County
Board of Health has jurisdiction over public health matters, except in cities having a
population of 25,000 or more who have appointed a board of health. The Board has
the following powers: Enforce state health laws and rules of the State Department,
make and enforce reasonable rules not inconsistent with laws or rule of the State
(rules become effective upon approval of the Board of Supervisors), employ such
employees as are necessary for efficient discharge of its duties and provide reports to
the State Department of Health.
