Roger Wernimont
Dubuque Fire Department consists of 89 personnel, any of which
deserve nomination for career EMS provider. Sixty -four are Iowa
Paramedics or Paramedic Specialists. When request for
recommendations for this award went around, only one name
was nominated. That name was Roger Wernimont.
Roger has been with the Dubuque Fire Department since 1993
and was promoted to Medical Officer in 1995. In 2007 he was
promoted to Captain on Medic 551, where he serves currently,
quietly going about his daily duties always willing to take on more
than his share of the work. Roger is the person you want taking
care of your family. If you were to have a family member in need
of pre - hospital emergency medical care, Roger is the one that you
would want to care for your loved one. Not only are his care and
interpersonal skills impeccable, he is a fantastic teacher. There is
not a person that rides with him that does not learn from him, yet
Roger will be the first to say he learns from them. Roger remains
calm under pressure and is a perfect example of how we should
all respond to emergencies.
