Ware, Leisure Services Manager DATE: October 28, 2011 SUBJECT: Multicultural Family Center 2010-11 Annual Report INTRODUCTION The Multicultural Family Center Board of Directors recently created the 2010 - 2011 Annual Report for the Multicultural Family Center. I'd like to have Tara come and make a presentation to the City Council at the November 21st meeting as an update on the efforts and success of the Center.   cc: Tara Velez, Multicultural Family Center Director Gil Spence, President, Multicultural Family Center Board     http://publicagenda.cityofdubuque.org/Bluesheet.aspx?ItemID=201&MeetingID=2011/20/2011 ant Multcultucal It. Family Center I DUBUQUE I vvvvAlfcdbq.org Dear Friends: As we wrap up our second year of operation at 1 157 Central Avenue, the Multicultural Family Center continues to grow and evolve. Our welcoming center offers a unique opportunity for families to attend programs together. This annual report shows how the number of programs offered to youth and families have grown and how popular the community and cultural events have become. The Center's value in serving the diverse needs of the community is evident through our program participation numbers increasing by over 50% from August 2010 to August 2011. The summer and school -year programs for middle and high school aged students continues to be the focus of our youth programming and meet the growing need for programs to serve that age group. The success of our fund raising efforts has allowed all our programs to be offered at no cost to the participants. To allow the director and assistant director to focus more on program development and understand the needs of Dubuque's diverse population, two part -time employees have been hired to provide supervision at the Center. We are pleased to welcome Marrichelle Glover and Cesar Gonzales to our team. The staff and board of directors continue to be impressed by the community's support for and desire to celebrate Dubuque's cultural diversity. Taste of the World attracted 1,100 community members to the Five Flags Center and the Juneteenth Celebration brought over 500 people to Comiskey Park. These are two examples of how Dubuque celebrates its diversity. We invite you to view this annual report to learn more about the mission of the Multicultural Family Center and to become more familiar with the programs and community and cultural events we offer. You are also encouraged to visit the Center, as a participant or as a community partner during this upcoming year. With Sincere Gratitude: Gil Spence Chair / Tara Velez Director Public /Private Partnership The Multicultural Family Center (MFC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
