Grandstand Under the Stars
From:
To:
In a conversation with other out of town people at the Diamond Jo on Saturday April 9th about the cancellation
of Grandstand Under the Stars due to Parking issues with the City of Dubuque, It is apparent that Dubuque has
taken another two steps forward and three steps back.
Why is it you don't catch the drift. My wife and I attended four of the concerts last summer. We figured without
the price for tickets we spent in the range of $450.00 to $500.00 dollars while in Dubuque. The others in the group
were in the same range.
We cannot figure out for the life of us why you can get these types of trivial issues settlet once and for all. It
seems any business dealings with the City and the Boat are always up in the air. If I ran the Boat it would be
gone!!!.
If you want people to keep coming here to spend money you had better get on the stick, because The Quad
Cities and Madison are now only a little over an hour away!

Grandstand Under the Stars Cancellation
From:
To:
I am saddened to read in the Telegraph Herald that, once again, the city is
having yet another "school yard squabble" with the Diamond Joe Casino.
Grandstand Under the Stars is a venue that has brought fine entertainment at
an affordable price to the middle aged population of Dubuque and the
surrounding area. My wife and I attended five of the performances last year
and about that many in 2003. Many of our friends also attended one or more
of these events and the reactions were all positive.
Our wonderful city has wisely chosen to base the future on tourism. This
direction goes hand in hand with entertainment. It seems that city
government (for the people?) is an obstacle rather than an asset in going
that direction. Why can't you get over this incessant bickering of who is
always going to get the "biggest piece of pie" while the tourism dollars
drive by on their way to the Quad Cities, Madison or Cedar Rapids?
I would venture to say that the age group attracted to Grandstand Under the
Stars (40-60 years old) control the largest percentage of spend income in
the Tri State area. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
