MEMORANDUM
April 6, 2005
TO:
Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manag'(-----)
Gus Psihoyos, City Engineer _~ ~
SUBJECT: Stop Sign on Geraldine Drive at Valentine Drive
FROM:
INTRODUCTION
The following is in response to a citizen request to install a stop sign on
Geraldine Drive at its intersection with Valentine Drive.
DISCUSSION
In 1997 the City Council authorized the installation of stop signs on June Drive
and Valentine Drive and on Patricia Ann Drive and Geraldine Drive. At that time
the Engineering Department looked at the need for traffic control at various T-
intersections in the immediate area. It was agreed at that time that no such
control was warranted but that Engineering would continue to monitor the
intersections.
Based on the recent citizen complaint, staff reviewed accident reports for this
intersection and found just one accident. The underage operator of a motor
scooter made an improper left turn from Geraldine Drive into the path of a vehicle
that was westbound on Valentine. This accident would not be considered the
type that would be correctable by the placement of a stop sign.
RECOMMENDATION
The approach sight distance for southbound vehicles on Geraldine Drive is
somewhat compromised; and based on the observations of residents who travel
through this intersection on a daily basis, I would recommend the installation of a
stop sign on Geraldine Drive and Valentine Drive.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
The City Council is requested to adopt the attached ordinance providing for the
installation of a stop sign for southbound traffic on Geraldine Drive at its
intersection with Valentine Drive.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am contacting you at this time in order to request that a stop sign be installed at the
intersection of Valentine Drive and Geraldine Drive.
This is an extremely dangerous intersection as cars traveling on Geraldine Drive onto
Valentine Drive are not required to stop and as a result there have been numerous near
accidents at this intersection. These near accidents have not only involved two vehicles,
but have also involved vehicles and bicyclists.
Thank you for your time, and assistance on this matter, and I would appreciate it if
someone from your office would please contact me to let me know of the status of this
request.
Sincerely,
J2~~~f {_ Lr~~
