Report_Library Board of Trustees 11 17 11Carnegie - Stout Public Library Library Board of Trustees Update From the Meeting of November 17, 2011 Present: Paula Connors, President; Mike Willis, Vice President; Trustees, John Anderson - Bricker and David Hammer, and Jenny Harris Excused: Diann Guns and Frederick Miller • 33 percent of the fiscal year has lapsed and expenditures are on target at 33 percent; revenue is at 30 percent of estimates. • Check outs are up 10 percent over last year, and 11 percent compared to October of last year. This is an interesting number to watch because the renovation was complete and October, 2010 would have been the first full month of operations in the new facility. It would not have been unusual to see this number level off by now. • 19 percent is the total of check outs, year -to -date, that have been through the self -check machine; issues remain and a more detailed report will be provided to the Board next month • Each year the IUPLA (Iowa Urban Public Library Association) library members share data submitted to the State Library of Iowa in an annual survey and compile some of the statistics for comparing and contrasting. have attached some of these for your information. • The lending library vending machine at Hy -Vee continues to experience problems. The Board voted to request a return of the machine and have a new one installed that is proven to work. • Outstanding issues regarding work to be corrected, or completed, in the renovation will continue to be addressed during meetings with the Engineering Department. • Save the dates! Friday, December 2 — 5:30 — 8:00 pm Art @your library opening reception for the Holiday Art Sale featuring 20+ artists and their works. Also at this time will be the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Thursday, December 15 from 3:00 — 4:00 pm will be a holiday reception sponsored by the Library Board of Trustees in the Aigler Auditorium for library staff and volunteers. • The Board approved a new food and beverage policy that reflects current practice. • The Board voted to bring the Heade painting back. The painting has been offered for sale at the Debra Fine art gallery in New York for several years. The market hasn't rebounded and the painting is no longer considered "fresh." It will be stored in the vault of the Art Museum until it can command a better price. Money from the sale of the painting will go to the City to cover expenses of the renovation.
