Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: Approval of School Resource Officer (SRO) Agreement with Dubuque Community Schools for School Year 2011/2012 DATE: November 26, 2011 Chief of Police Mark Dalsing recommends City Council approval of the Fiscal Year 2011/2012 School Resource Officer Agreement between the City of Dubuque Police Department and the Dubuque Community School District. The Police Department and Dubuque Community Schools continue to work closely in providing a strong relationship between the school district and police through the Dubuque Police School Resource Officer (SRO) program. In the past, the department has dedicated three full time police officers to the Dubuque Community School District throughout the school year. Beginning with the current school year of 2011/2012, the department added an additional full time officer and increased the number of SRO officers to four. The position is part of the five year, 15 officer hiring plan begun in 2008. Dubuque Community School District was contacted regarding the fourth SRO position and approved that addition. The Dubuque Community School District provides financial support to the City for 50% salary of three SRO officers in the amount of $125,199.50. I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council approval. dtit)144 (4-117;45 Michael C.
