INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memorandum is to recommend that the City Council award a contract to Floor Show Companies for the
Grand River Center Exhibit Hall Carpet Replacement Project.
DISCUSSION
Bids were received on November 23, 2011 for the Grand River Center Exhibit Hall Carpet Replacement Project. A summary
of the bids is attached as Exhibit 1. The bid provided for selecting one of three carpet choices. Grand River Center General
Manager Mitzy Yordy, Robyn McDermott of Pigott (designer on the project) and myself reviewed all carpets and determined
carpet met all needs of the project. The current carpet will be recycled as part of the project.
The Fiscal Year 2011 C.I.P. budget contains $156,000 for this project. The carpet is original to the building and needs to be
replaced.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend that the bid from Floor Show Companies be accepted for Carpet #2 in the amount of $89,358.00.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
The action requested is that the City Council adopt the attached resolution awarding a contract to Floor Show Companies in
the amount of $89358.00 forthe Grand River Center Exhibit Hall Carpet Replacement Project.

Sealed bids were received for the Grand River Center Exhibit Hall Carpet Replacement
Project. Leisure Services Manager Marie Ware recommends award of the contract to
the low bidder, Floor Show Companies, in the amount of $89,358.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

RESOLUTION NO. 416 -11
AWARDING CONTRACT
WHEREAS, sealed proposals have been submitted by contractors for the Grand
River Center Exhibit Hall Carpet Replacement Project pursuant to Resolution No. 368 -11,
and notice to bidders published in a newspaper published in the City of Dubuque, Iowa, on
the 11th day of November, 2011.
WHEREAS, said sealed proposals were opened and read on the 23rd day of
November, 2011, and it has been determined that the bid of Floor Show Companies in the
amount of $89,358.00 was the lowest bid for the furnishings of all labor and materials and
performing the work as provided for in the plans and specifications.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA:
That the contract for the above improvement be awarded to Floor Show Companies,
and the Manager be and is hereby directed to execute a contract on behalf of the City of
Dubuque for the complete performance of the work.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That upon the signing of said contract and the approval of the contractor's bond, the
City Treasurer is authorized and instructed to return the bid deposits of the unsuccessful
bidders.
