Dear Council Members:
Based on a discussion we had with city parking representatives, Paula Gieseman and Bill
Schlickman today, we would like to request that the street parking in front of our business office at
I 170 Roosevelt Street Extension be designated a two-hour maximum parking zone. Ms. Gieseman
and Mr. Schlickman were out here today to view the situation and advised us that this request
would be the most likely way to proceed with correcting what we feel is a potentially dangerous
situation.
Area Residential Care's business offices have a parking lot to the side and rear for employee and
visitor parking. The exit from this lot is onto Roosevelt Street Extension, and 95% or more of
those exiting the parking lot make a left turn in order to get to Kerper Boulevard. The vision for
making a left turn is obscured by vehicles parked along the south side of Roosevelt Street
Extension in front of our offices. If this were an infrequent occurrence we would not be so
concerned, but almost everyday this entire side of the street is filled with vehicles from 6:55 AM
until 3:00 or 3:30 PM. These vehicles almost exclusively come from the Barnstead-Thermolyne
employees who work across Kerper Boulevard at the back end of that plant. While parking along
this street probably does give these employees a shorter walk to their vehicles than if they parked in
the Barn stead- Thermolyne parking lot, it also does create a visual hazard for anyone trying to exit
our parking lot onto Roosevelt Street Extension. We would therefore ask that you designate the
parking along the south side of Roosevelt Street Extension a two-hour maximum parking zone as
soon as possible.
