Whereas, May 1 - May 7, 2005 has been designated Nurses’ Week at Mercy
Medical Center, and
Whereas, the demand for nursing is as great as ever due to an aging
population, increases in technology, changes in the settings where
health care is delivered, changes in healthcare financing and
changing healthcare needs of today’s consumer, and
Whereas, nurses spend hours furthering their education and improving their
skills to provide expert services to the community and nurses must
be willing to accept the new challenges and hazards that are
becoming more prevalent in our changing society, and
Whereas, the nurses of Mercy Medical Center have achieved national
thnd
recognition by becoming the 134 hospital in the country and the 2
in the state of Iowa to receive Magnet status; and
Whereas, Magnet Hospitals consistently outperform non-Magnet hospitals to
provide better care to their patients, and meet the highest standards
of nursing excellence; and
Whereas, Magnet recognition requires that hospitals demonstrate a strong
commitment to nursing practice and practice setting so that nurses
and other clinicians are able to provide their best care.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM MAY 1 – 7, 2005 AS:
“NURSES’ WEEK”
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE AND URGE ALL OF OUR CITIZENS TO GIVE DUE
HONOR AND RECOGNITION TO THESE MOST DEDICATED AND FAITHFUL
HEALTHCARE WORKERS.
