Proclamation Bike Safety
WHEREAS, since 1998 The Finley Hospital has worked with local agencies and
organizations of Dubuque to promote bike safety as part of the May
National Bike Safety Month; and
WHEREAS, The Finley Hospital is dedicated to provide an opportunity for safety related
educational programs, bicycle community events, bike helmet promotions
as part of the “Bike Rodeo” held each May in Dubuque; and
WHEREAS, The Finley Hospital will again be doing the “Safety Rules Bike Rodeo” for
the Dubuque community on May 14, 2005 at Flora Park from 9:00 a.m. to
noon. The event is held to help reduce bicycle related crashes and injuries,
provide safety demonstrations, proper helmet and bicycle fittings, skills
development and road use rules; and
WHEREAS, The Finley Hospital, Dupaco Community Credit Union, the Bike Shack, City
of Dubuque Leisure Services, Dubuque Police, Fire & Rescue, Dubuque
Morning and Noon Optimist, Radio Dubuque, Kwik Stop, Dairy Queen,
Dubuque area physicians, SELCO Inc., Happy Joes, and other service
agencies have helped over 300 children each year to stay safe while biking;
and
WHEREAS, The Finley Hospital and all agencies involved are inviting the people of
Dubuque to this Bike Rodeo so they can learn and participate in bike safety
and biking smart; and celebrate spring with this Bike Rodeo event.
NOW, THEREFORE, I TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, DO
HEREBY PROCLAIM THAT THE MONTH OF MAY BE DESIGNATED AS
“BIKE SAFETY MONTH”
FOR THE COMMUNITY AND CHILDREN OF DUBUQUE, TO PROMOTE, EDUCATE AND
PARTICIPATE IN THIS WORTHWHILE BIKE RODEO SAFETY PROJECT.
