SUBJECT: Stop Signs at Camelot Drive
City Engineer Gus Psihoyos recommends City Council approval of the installation of
stop signs on Sunnyslope Drive at Camelot Drive and on Hummingbird Drive at
Camelot Drive, requiring vehicles approaching Camelot to stop.

SUBJECT: Stop Signs at Camelot Drive
INTRODUCTION
The City of Dubuque Engineering Department recently received a citizen request
by telephone for consideration of stop signs on Sunnyslope Drive at Camelot
Drive and on Hummingbird Drive at Camelot Drive.
DISCUSSION
In July, 2004, the City Council concurred with a recommendation by the City
Engineering Department that all City streets constructed to a width of 36 feet or
wider should be given the designation of "through streets" which would allow the
placement of stop or yield signs at all streets intersecting with such streets.
At that time a list of 16 streets were presented to City Council for consideration
for "through street" designation. All were approved.
Camelot Drive is 36 feet wide from Radford Road to Embassy West Drive where
it becomes 31 feet wide. Camelot was not included in the list presented to City
Council. Because of its width from Radford Road to Embassy West Drive, it
should be given the right-of-way over the two streets with which it intersects in
that span.
RECOMMENDATION
I would recommend that Camelot Drive between Radford Road and Embassy
West Drive be given the right-of-way over Sunnyslope Drive and Hummingbird
Drive by including these two streets in Sec. 32-214. (Stop Intersections),
requiring drivers of vehicles approaching Camelot to stop. I feel this would be a
better option than designating the short section of Camelot Drive as a "through
street". The effect to traffic will be the same either way.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
The City Council is requested to adopt the attached ordinance to allow for the
placement of stop signs on Sunnyslope Drive at Camelot Drive and on
Hummingbird Drive at Camelot Drive.
