Board of Health - Head Lice Control Plan ., . CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA MEMORANDUM January 11, 1999 TO: Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager FROM: Mary Rose Corrigan, RN, Public Health Specialist SUBJECT: Report to Board of Health on the Head Lice Control Plan INTRODUCTION This memorandum submits a report to the City Board of Health regarding the Dubuque County Pediculosis- Control Plan. BACKGROUND The City Board of Health approved the Dubuque County Pediculosis Control Plan in December 1998. This Plan was developed by the City and County Health Departments, Visiting Nurse Association, Dubuque Community School District, and the Western Dubuque Community School District. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), and the National Pediculosis Association (NPA) were all consulted for information to formulate the Dubuque County Plan. DISCUSSION To date the following has occurred with regards to the Plan: Through the cooperation of the City and County Health Departments, the Finley Hospital, Dubuque VNA, and Dubuque Community School District, the plan has been printed and advertising conducted for the January 21 st education presentation. Distribution to schools, pediatric and family practice physicians, day care providers, beauticians, YW/YMCA, City Park & Recreation staff, Scout organizations, and Girls Club/Boys Club, and other agencies that work with children is occurring. Community-wide education will occur on January 21, 1999 with Dr. Russ Currier, IDPH, presenting (see attached poster.) A log of where the plan is distributed is being kept so that yearly updates can be forwarded to all. Dubuque VNA is seeking funding to secure nit combs and lice-treating shampoo for those who cannot afford it. BOARD OF HEALTH ACTION No action required at this time. This is for your information.
