Recreation Division Manager Pat Prevenas informed commissioners that
Robert Gaulke was hired as the McAleece concession manager, along with
four concession workers. Equipment is being purchased and we are working

exclusive soft drink contract.

more light fixtures were added by the river. Laura Carstens applied for, and

to look like limestone, and parking lot. The parking lot is being bid as an
alternate.

In the absence of Park Division Manager John Hail (City Expo), no report was
given.
Recreation Division winter report was mailed to commissioners and may be
found as part of the original minutes. Recreation Division Manager Pat
Prevenas informed commissioners:
~ The summer brochure will be available at City Expo tonight. It will be mailed to
public school families and delivered to Holy Family administration offices for
distribution to parochial schools. The Uptown Recreation fliers were distributed
to schools in the targeted low income areas. ~ As shown on the winter report,
numbers were good for Hempstead winter swimming, St. Patrick's open gym and
the alumni basketball tournament; struggling with after school sports basketball
numbers. ~ The outfield fence height was raised on fields I and II at McAleece
from eight to thirteen feet. It was cheaper to raise the fence than to extend the
length of the fields. ~ The golf course opened March 23rd with about the same
number of rounds as last year, except there are more paid rounds.
Manager Spence told commissioners that the couple that previously approached
the commission about purchasing a section of Southern Avenue Park, has
contacted him again about purchasing a different section of the park. Copies of
a map with the area marked were distributed to commissioners. After
discussion, it was recommended that commissioners go look at the area in
question, at their convenience, and be prepared to discuss it at the May meeting.
It was moved by Duggan, seconded by Daykin, that the meeting be adjourned at
4:55 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
