Dear Jean:
Because of your continued interest in the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
program, I wanted to take this opportunity to inform you about the fiscal year 2006 budget as it
affects this program.
As you know, CDBG funds continue to playa critical role in economic development
efforts in most of Iowa's communities. I believe that we should maintain local control and that
the federal government should be a partner with communities who know the most about their
own economic needs.
As House Budget Committee chairman, I crafted the final budget conference report for
fiscal year 2006 to include an additional $1.5 billion to accommodate enhanced support
specifically for the CDBG program. The conference report does not assume that the CDBG
program should be consolidated or moved into another federal department. The House of
Representatives and the Senate approve the budget on April 28, 2005. Please be assured I will
continue to fight to maintain this very important program as Congress continues the
appropriations process.
My best information comes from the people I represent. By going to
http://www.nussle.house.gov, you may e-mail your comments to me and learn more about my
role in Congress.
