Narrative Description: Architectural Style And Key Stylistic Elements: Vernacular two-story frame duplex with corner storefront, angled corner on alleyway, form conforms to shape of lot, Craftsman style upper sash Physical Description: 42x14 core, stone foundation Alterations: Storefront removed, aluminum siding Building Permit Cards: 1973-removal of garage 1975-stairway added second floor rear 1976- remodel bus bldg into 2 units on the grade floor - $4,000- owner: Dan Wilwert Outbuildings: None Landscaping Notes: Corner Lot, sharp corner, alley to north, fronts northwest 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: Sanborn maps date this building to after 1909, yet the first directory listings go back to at least 1902 as 298 Hill, and earlier if 302 Hill is an earlier number for this building. It is most likely that an earlier storefront, built c.1900 was replaced c.1910. Historical Notes: Eliz. Herbst owns north half of Lot 6, Gustave F. Manstedt, south half, when sewered in 1891. The building clearly post-dates 1909. The 1909 Sanborn presumably shows a cleared site, preparatory to constructing this building. City Directory Notes: (298 Hill Street) 1899-1906 W. D.
