7. Narrative Description:
Architectural Style And Key Stylistic Elements:
Palladian Classical Revival tyle with centered gable roof pediment (returned eaves) on broader hip
core, flanking flat-roof entry porches inset in front corners, window bands in front wing, symmetrical
side wall fenestration. Ashlar concrete block duplex, cubic plan with hip roof. Interesting structural
feature is broad custom lintel with engaged spring stone ends that supports the lower front wing window
band. Also unusual angled twin front attic lights.
Physical Description:
44x27 core, 7x17 front pavilion/ wing, stucco foundation, unusual rough surfaced cast wrap-around
lintels, grapevine joints

None noted, no permit data.

July 23, 1925-building permit to Voelker Realty Co. for concrete block duplex
1975-Masonry storage shed
Outbuildings:
Concrete block shed, 20x20, 1928, garage 20x20, 1920 with glass block window infill, side gabled,
garage has raised end walls and flat roof
Landscaping Notes:
Ground falls away to the east from the front of the lot, walkout basement to the east, fronts west.
8. Narrative Statement of Significance:
This is the last surviving of numerous houses which formerly lined James and Langworthy (east of Hill)
streets. The others were demolished in the face of Mercy Hospital and commercial expansion in the
area. While excluded from the defined survey area, it was logical to include it within the survey and the
recommended district.

Historical Notes:
Jacob Rich owns in 1911 when sewered.
Date appears to be quite late for this type of building material but directories confirm the post-WWI
date.
